Canon EOS R50 V (R50V) Vlog Camera Kit with RF-S 14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ Power Zoom Lens

The Canon EOS R50 V, which most Canadians search for as the Canon R50V, is Canon's first EOS V series body: a vlog camera designed around video first, then given the stills capability of a 24.2 MP APS-C sensor and a DIGIC X processor. It ships with the RF-S 14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ power zoom lens, a 22-48mm equivalent that stays wide enough to hold your face and your background in the same frame at arm's length.

The power zoom lens is the reason this kit exists. Turning a zoom ring by hand pushes noise and vibration straight into the body microphone. The PZ lens is driven electronically from a zoom lever on the camera, and the zoom speed is set separately for before you record and while you record. Talking head, walking shot, or B-roll: the audio stays clean and the move repeats exactly.

Where the standard R50 stops, this body keeps going. Canon Log 3, HLG, PQ and Canon 709 record at up to 4:2:2 10-bit, so graded footage holds together. Slow and Fast mode sets the recording frame rate and the playback speed independently, in camera, for slow motion or time lapse. Cinema View adds a 2.35:1 letterbox, and 14 colour filters sit alongside the usual Picture Styles. There is a front record button for when you are the subject, a red tally lamp visible from the front and the top, and a red border around the screen while recording.

Resolution runs to UHD 4K oversampled from 6K at 29.97p full width, 4K Crop at 59.94p, and Full HD at 119.8p. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II covers roughly the whole frame with Auto, People, Animal and Vehicle subject detection, plus Register People Priority, the same feature Canon puts in the EOS R1, R3 and R5 Mark II. Audio is a three microphone array with noise detection, a 3.5mm microphone input, a 3.5mm headphone output that the standard R50 does not have, and 24-bit four channel recording through the Multi-function shoe.

For live work there are four built-in streaming modes: UVC and UAC webcam over USB-C, clean HDMI to a capture card or switcher, Live Switcher Mobile for multi-camera work, and direct streaming through Camera Connect. Wi-Fi runs on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, the card slot takes UHS-II, and the USB-C port is USB 3.2 Gen 2. Two things to know before you buy: there is no electronic viewfinder, so you compose on the 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen, and there is no in-body stabilization, so steadying comes from the lens IS and Movie IS mode.
