Canon HG-100TBR Mini Tripod and Camera Grip with BR-E1 Bluetooth Remote

The Canon HG-100TBR is a mini tripod and a camera grip in one piece of kit, built for people who shoot alone and need to be in front of the lens as often as they are behind it. Hold it as a handle for selfies and walking shots, then fold out the three legs and set it down as a tabletop tripod on a desk, a rock or a countertop. The head turns a full 360 degrees and locks at four points, so switching to vertical framing for social video takes about a second.

Canon builds the body from polycarbonate resin, which is how it comes in at 163 g on its own, or 179 g with the remote clipped in. Canon does not recommend loading it past 1 kg in total, camera, lens, microphone and accessories included, so treat it as a companion for a light mirrorless or compact body rather than a full-frame rig. The head tilts forward to 45 degrees and back to 90 degrees, so high and low angles are both easy to hold.

The Wireless Remote Control BR-E1 in the box is what makes this more than a tripod for a Canon camera. It pops out of the grip, connects over Bluetooth 4.1, and fires the shutter or starts and stops recording from roughly 16 ft (5 m) in any direction. It runs on a single CR2032 coin cell that Canon rates at about a year, so there is nothing to recharge the night before a shoot. Two microphone attachments, sizes L and S, and a wrist strap are included.

For creators, it doubles as a vlogging tripod that fits in a jacket pocket, and it is one of the few small camera tripods that Canon designs and warranties itself. The Bluetooth camera remote also means a group shot no longer needs a volunteer or a ten second dash back into frame.

Canon lists the HG-100TBR as compatible with the EOS R3, R7, R10, R6 Mark II, R8, R50, M200, M50 and M6 Mark II, plus the PowerShot G7 X Mark III and G5 X Mark II.
